Thanks, this is a great post, the VBScript option scared me a little bit (not sure if it is a good idea to disable verification) so I downloaded and installed the certs, that cut down my app startup time from several minutes (3 or 4 I didn't measured it formally) to only 14 secs.

    Great stuff, thanks!

One of the most useful workarounds ever. I've been caching precompiling nothing was correct.

This is an excellent post. We have been fighting this issue for some time now, and for some reason have not been able to find a solution.

After reading this, I wondered if the SQL Server 2005 management tool also showed this behaviour. So I pulled out Proces Explorer, checked the TCP/IP traffic for SQLWb.exe and yes, indeed it also tries to connect to crl.microsoft.com - several times, so that's quite a long wait! After allowing access to crl.microsoft.com, the startup time went to near-0 !

Ah, this saves me so much aggrevation!
